History: Iv been playing both acoustic and electric guitars for over 7 years now and i have had played about with several different effects pedels in that time but never in my life have i had sooooo much fun with this little box of genius!

Purchase: i bought it for £300 and i am hoping to get a FBV4 pedel to go with it which should cost abt £70
Pros: absolutely evrything about it is phenominal! the sustain, gates, distortion, and overall variety of effects it offer provides so much potential for any musician it is unbelievable. since i have had it i have explored may more different types of music including going into heavier rock, which really got some amazing riffs and a huge range of chords
Cons: there is so much on there i found it hard to believe for the first couple of weeks!! although there were many different setting that i did not even know about until i did the most unholy thing.......yes i read the manual!! and it was actually quite good reading!!
Quality: as im in a band i av set up every week at whoevers house were practising at, but i have found, apart from a few scratches, which im very disapointed about, it can take a fair amount of kickin, falling off the top of amps among other regular rocking accidents

Review Summary: if you want more than one effect with in a product this is the only thig for you! i foudn that it is much more than a piece of equiptment, i used to play my guitar on my own, but now i play my guitar and my pod plays bak

Purchase: I paid 250.00 for this new at Guitar Center in Tacoma,WA.
Pros: This PODxt is an upgrade from the previous Pod ver 2.0. It has all new amp models based on the Line 6 Vetta amplifier. The first thing I did was get online and download an upgrade for the PODxt. It was so simple, and free, now with the upgrade I have more amp models and cab choices. Almost every amp model is a usable tone, and if you feel like tweeking the factory settings(and what gearhead wouldn`t), the combinations of sounds are endless. I know there are those that truly belive that you cannot recreate the warmth of a real tube amp, Buy this POD. I have had the pleasure of putting my PODxt side by side with a 1965 Fender Super Reverb. If you were blindfolded you couln`t tell the difference. Plus with the addition of the Line 6 shortboard, you can switch to any of the different settings, or use volume/Wah with ease. You have complete control. For an additional $99 you can download some of the most sought after amp models, boutique amps, and effects pedals. right from your computer.
Cons: The cost of the additional Line 6 shortboard(I belive it to be a must have!) is actually as much as the Podxt.
Quality: Nearly indestructable. Solid metal kidney-shaped , and about half the size of your computer keyboard. I owned my original POD ver 2.0 for 2 years without a problem.

Review Summary: This is your best bang for the buck in the amp modeling game. This will plug into any amplifier, will connect direct to mixing board for recording, or will plug straight into the PA for playing live. I have done all three with flawless results. No matter what style of playing, or what type of guitar you plug into it you will be amazed at what it will do right of the box!!

Purchase: I heard so many people rant and rave about this unit that I had to try one. I got it on-line, paying the typical $399 price that is often advertised.
Pros: Lots of control over parameters.
Cons: I like a fairly hard rock sound but not as hard as Nu-Metal, so for me, I found most of the factory presets unusable unless you like sounding like old recordings. I have a new Les Paul Custom and was looking for a great sounding, "miked" Marshall sound. Most of the presets sounded "right in your face", like you were plugging a stomp box right into the recording console. I was able to go in and configure my own setups and come up with some pretty cool sounds but it took an eternity to get even close to the sound I was after. When it came time to record these customized sounds, I found that the cool sound that I got through the headset jack was not the same as what went to tape.
Quality: Seemed well constructed - metal instead of plastic which was nice.

Review Summary: There is a chance that I had a defective unit but in any case, even though it did have some cool features, I didn't think it was $400 worth of cool. I sent mine back for a refund. I guess there is a reason why recording studios still mike Les Pauls played through Marshalls. "Direct in" still has a long way to go.

Purchase: I purchased the Pod XT for 399.00 at Guitar Center. I love the tones and being a pod 2.0 owner I thought it was a great upgrade.
Pros: I love the quantity of classic amps and vintage effects the pod xt offers. Also, the ease of use is excellent.
Cons: Some of the tones can be a little muddy but with a little tweaking the tones come to life.
Quality: The construction is almost bulletproof and the quality is wonderful which is the same with all line 6 products I have owned and tried in the past.

Review Summary: Overall the sound, flexability and ease of use, construction and performance is great the only negative is the slight muddiness in some of the sounds but that too can be rectified with slight tweaking.

Purchase: Sweetwater Direct (www.sweetwater.com) in November 2002 - paid $375 for it
Pros: The effects section is particularly improved over previous PODs with lots of control and flexibility
Cons: There is a HUGE difference in the basic tones from the POD 2.3 to the XT. Some models seem better, some are extremely different. One would expect a highly successful product line like the POD to continue forward in a somewhat linear fashion - the XT seems to require a good deal more knob tweaking to get the same basic amp tones that 2.3 had. That is odd to say the least. With their latest software update 1.04, there is a horrible popping sound associated with hi-gain patch switches utilizing delay. VERY BAD!
Quality: The unit is quite sturdy in a darker red metal chassis than it's predecessor. Construction seems of good quality after 10 months of use.

Review Summary: On Line6's user forums, there had been a GREAT deal of discussion as to whether the XT is a step forward or not for the POD series. It can do many things the 2.3 cannot yet many users agree that the basic overall amp tones on the POD PRO or POD 2.3 were superior to those found in the XT. There is the popping issue mentioned previously also. It is a good unit but I recommend it with some reservations.

Purchase: I got this for $399.99 flat from Musician's Friend because there is no tax, it's over three hundred, and I didn't need and extra year's warranty. I got it in March, 2003.
Pros: I was just looking around this site and noticed that there wasn't a review for the POD xt so I decided to put one there. This is the best musical investment I've ever made, apart from my actual guitar. I like how it's got a new LCD display, which makes it so much easier to know what you're doing than with the POD 2.0. I like how it's got 32 different amps programed into it, and from the real ones I've actually played, I know that they all sound EXACTLY like the real thing. I like the 22 different cabinets that are programed into it also. I like how I had trouble choosing whether to put in Guitar Effects, Recording Gear, or Live Sound. I like how it has USB, enabling me to update the software over the internet, MIDI just in case of the IMPOSSIBLE likelyhood that someone would find a stombox or modulation effect that isn't stored in here (there are 50-60 of them that you can modify or just leave the same, but I never found the need to search for any more than I currently use in my songs), and the jack for the foot switch. I like the ability to create my own tones and save them. I like the extremely easy-to-use and accurate built-in tuner. I like how it has fifty-something preset amp/cab combinations labeled with names of classic songs to help you find the tone you're looking for, even though I'm 14 and I've never heard most of them. I like how it will be months, even years before I discover all the different tones I can get. But most important of all, I like how it looks; the kidney-bean shape and the fact that is the exact same metallic red as my guitar.
Cons: If there is one thing I don't like about this, it's that you can't save the changes you've made to the preset amp/cab mixtures.
Quality: The POD is built like a tank. The outer shell is pure metal. Mine has been dropped several times already and not a single thing has come loose. I can probably shoot it and it would still work.

Review Summary: If you have trouble finding that perfect tone you're looking for either at practice, recording, or even live (you can buy the footswitch that Line 6 also makes), and you don't want to spend thousands, this is the answer to all of your problems.
