On 2002-11-15, Bruce rated this Route 101 Guitars Solimar Custom a 5...(3039)

Purchase: Purchsed a Solimar Custom from Route 101 Guitars website; www.route101guitars.com. I had heard great things about their product and couldn't believe that I could design my own guitar starting at $329! The concept intrigued me and after reading all of the great reviews they've been receiving I decided to give them a shot. After designing my guitar on their website I was surprised to see that my total came to $484, for a guitar which could have easily cost upwards of $700!
Pros: Everything! After all, I designed it myself ;-) I was able to specify every option, which I think is a great feature. I've been playing for over 20 years and I've never been given the opportunity to design my own model for less than $1200. At less than $500, I received a guitar that oozes quality and was built to my specs. I got a Luna White Solimar, black pickguard, a splittable humbucker in the neck, a single coil in the middle and a splittable humbucker in the bridge along with 7-way switching. I have so many tonal possibilities that I've lost count! Graphite nut and saddles. The thing just rocks. I think one of my favorite features is the neck. I found out later that all of their guitars come with a complete fret dress before they are shipped. So, even though I really like my local tech, I won't be visiting him for the normal set-up and dropping the usual $150! So, I think overall I saved over $400. Not bad. I'm pretty happy.
Cons: The only thing I don't like about it is that it's made me want another one!
Quality: Pretty damn solid. I've taken it to 3 gigs already and it's just sparkeled. I can actual get away with just one guitar on stage at a show because of all of the different tones. And because of the graphite nut & saddles I rarely bust a string on stage, which is a lifesaver. The mahogany body is contoured and is quite comfortable.

Review Summary: Route 101 Guitars can expect another order from me at the turn of the year. What can I say, I'm a happy customer. A great company that actually delivers a quality product. When I had any questions they were more than happy to spend some time with me, whether on the phone or live chat. Pretty impressive considering the runaround I've received from other companies. Rock on Route 101!
