On 2004-10-20, Mark Taylor rated this Samick Acoustic pickup a 4...(10360)

Purchase: Purchased new from World Piano in Rome, GA. I needed an inexpensive pickup for my Yamaha acoustic. Price: 30.00 plus tax.
Pros: The price was the deciding factor but when I got it mounted, I was thoroughly pleased with the sound. It produces the deep bottom end of my Yamaha FG336sb, the brights are really bright. Good even tonal quality and is adjustable for string height.
Cons: Okay, the mounting bracket consists of a wire attached to 2 holes in the base plastic. This took some adjusting to get it to stay in. The submini jack is very fragile. After 2 yrs, mine has already been destroyed. I opened the housing and permanently wired end pin jack to wires.
Quality: Sound quality is good, very acoustical thru a Crate amp. build quality is cheapo. All plastic, very small volume and tone dials, submini plastic reed jack. Special cord 1/8 mini on one end to 1/4 plug on other. Very simple and effective. Works best with a preamp.

Review Summary: Pick up is good acoustical quality, needs better mount and controls. But for 30.00, can't be beat anywhere. Just as good as some higher priced lipstick type pickups. Maybe not as tonal as the wooden mount pickups but okay for that acoustic thru amp sound. Ditch the cord, mount permanently and can gig away with it.
