Martins Stab at Entry Level Ukuleles

At this years NAMM show, Martin introduced the OXK ukulele. They are attempting to get a piece of the entry level ukulele market that is dominated by Ovation’s sub-line Applause. The body is made of high pressure laminate and styled to look like Hawaiian Koa, so very appropriate for a ukulele. It features Sitka spruce top bracing, grover tuners and a bone nut and saddle. With a retail price of $399, the uke will probably have a street price of $350 which will compete with other builders, but Applause also features an acoustic/electric option in the same price range. Electronics are not an option in the Martin.

Martin does offer another uke that is similarly priced, but the remainder of their line is $1999 and up. This was a good move to offer a more affordable instrument in the X-series. The ukulele comes with a gig bag and is ready to play.
