Bock 195 Reviews 5

The Bock 195 is a large-diaphragm FET microphone. I am a student, musician, writer, and pretty good line dancer residing in beautiful Nashville, TN. I've been a drummer and guitar player for the past 10 years of my life and have began engineering and producing in the past 4. I currently play drums for the band Brookline and you can see me rockin' an Orange County Drum and Percussion or Mapex kit decked out with Zildjian K Hybrids.

Our studio bought this mic from Sweetwater about a year back for right about $1000. We work looking to expand our large-diaphragm stereo capabilities and bought a pair.

When I first plugged this mic in I expected for it to have the strong 'fizzle' that many of the older FET mic's obtain but it produced a surprisingly clear signal. It's also proved to be useful in many scenerios because of it's great ability to capture a strong attack as well as a soft sustain with great quality. The mic also featuers a -15 dB pad and a 10 dB bass roll-off. This past week, my band tracker all vocals using this mic and they are some of the clearest and crisp vocals I have ever heard. Check the Recording forum for examples in the next few weeks!

This microphone was created with the best electronics giving it a ridiculously low self noise, especially for a FET mic. It boasts a 1' gold diaphragm and a strong protective capsule.

David Bock himself claims to inspect and hand pick each and every capsule before it is sent out to ensure perfection. Whether or not this true - somebody knew what they were doing. Sitting at 1/3rd of the price of a U87 and being the top-of-the-line FET mic out, this is a must have for any serious studio or mic connoisseur.
