Earthworks QTC50mp Reviews 5

The Earthworks QTC50mp (matched pair) look like something you may see in the doctors office and are the perfect mic for audio surgery! I am a student, musician, writer, and pretty good line dancer residing in beautiful Nashville, TN. I've been a drummer and guitar player on and off for the past 10 years of my life and have began engineering and producing in the past 4. I currently play drums for the band Brookline and you can see me rockin' an Orange County Drum and Percussion or Mapex kit decked out with Zildjian K Hybrids.

Our studio bought this matched pair a few years back for right around $3,000 from Sweetwater. We purchased this mic while trying to build our mic catalog for a new studio at a Recording Arts college in Nashville, TN.

This matched pair is to most sensitive, detailed microphone I have ever used while mantaining a high max SPL level of around 140db. It sounds great on strings, choirs, and large format recordings such as orchestras, front of house live recordings, and sound for film. With their incredibly low self-noise, you can crank them as hot as you want for even the quietest of sounds and still get unmatched clarity.

The only complaint I have about these mics are the clips that come with them. They are made of weak plastic and need to be replaced...not enough to bring them down from a 5 star rating, though.

The mic look somewhat like an alien probe. The back end is the size of an XLR connector and then gently decreases in size until it's not more than the width of a pencil at the end.

Bottom Line? If your serious about orchestral and choir recording these mics are a must have! If you want to have a great matched pair in your studio that can capture unbeatable quality, these are a great compliment to your KM 184's.
